Eisenhower Matrix: Decide what deserves your time.

Separate urgency from importance, then reserve time for the work that matters.

Urgent and important are different questions

The Eisenhower matrix considers urgency and importance separately. FranklinCovey’s Time Matrix uses this distinction too.

In thrw, work through those decisions with AI, then update your to-dos and schedule accordingly.

Apply it

  1. Explain what matters to you:

My main goal this month is to prepare for a certification exam. I also need to keep up with essential personal commitments. Help me sort this list by urgency and importance. Explain your choices and ask if you need more context.

  1. Review the four areas:
  • Urgent and important — address first.
  • Important, not urgent — reserve time.
  • Urgent, less important — consider whether someone else can help.
  • Neither — consider reducing or postponing.
  1. Adjust the proposal and turn a decision into action:

Exam preparation is important but not urgent. Schedule a practice test tomorrow from 7 to 8 p.m.

Did the decision become a plan?

Check that important work has time reserved. The quadrants are a decision framework here, not a dedicated four-quadrant view or an automatic delegation feature.
